I also know quite a few relative newbies who use Macs and I never ever hear of them getting viruses.

I didn't ask for anectodal evidence because I could truthfully tell you that neither me (not a newbie) or my wife (a newbie) have ever had a virus under Windows. That doesn't prove anything. I asked a very simple question that you have tried (unsuccessfully) to dodge. I'll pose it again:

First tell me please just which Unix distro has
99% of the computer newbie desktop market and
then I'll tell you which one is prone to viruses.
