Well, the saftey issues will drive Microsoft out ot the picture.
And, for cost and control reasons, nobody will want a Microsoft OS here. But, yes, the manufacturers need to thing about what they are doing. They would be the ones responsible for a virus in an appliance. They will not be able to duck the responsibility like Microsoft.
