Unless MS pulls a miracle Windows is doomed ...
IMO:

And this isn't meant as a slam or flamebait against Microsoft, so please take that into consideration if replying.

But I can't help but wonder if all these various tools only catch and clean 70% to 85% of the known threats, what will the other 15% to 30% be able to do in general ?

Seems to me that adware/spyware is *more* dangerous due to the fact that it isn't a one-time process - ie viruses get executed (whether accidently or via ignorance) and they run linearly from point "A" to "B" doing what they were designed to do. Whereas adware/spyware sits running in the background CONSTANTLY doing its damage, all the time when the PC is up-n-running.

I'm really concerned that current methods being used just isn't enough to curtail this problem. Anti-viral tools have been around for a long, long time. Designed from the ground up to keep systems clean and operating properly. Companies have/do spend a small fortune for these tools, it's considered SOP when setting up an email envionment or workstation. Whereas adware/spyware tools aren't yet thought of as crucial to the proper setup and running of our critical IT systems.

Am I being too paranoid about this issue ?
