That would depend where you live since some states you can defend yourself and property by force if needed.A weapon of any kind constitutes a threat to your life,that includes a person big enough to hurt you.And it is not illegal in my state at least to defend or make a citizens arrest on a crime committed in your presence or that you have more than resonalble dout that the subject committed.Thats unless you live in a state or country where you have no rights to defend such as New Jersy or new york city/ohio and a few other states that give criminals more rights than it's citizens.What they are doing is defending helpless people from low life scum that should be in jail.
