Active X isn't the problem

The problem with IE and Active X is that IE downloads Active X controls for you if you have browser settings set like that. I believe by default IE asks first before downloading but most users are clueless on what an active X control is. All average users know is that they have had to download this to make a website work, Windows update for example. So they are used to clicking yes. The flaw is in the user.

If users of knives keep cutting themselves on the sharp edge we shouldn't dull all knives. On the other had it should be managable to to remove sharp objects from those who tend to hurt themselves with them. I believe disabling active X controls accomplishes this nicely. Removing Active X isn't an answer. Now there are other vulnerbilities that make IE problem but for the most part if you choose not to use IE you're relatively safe.

Personally I'd like to remove IE as I see no need for it to waste my resources. But with Windows you have to live with it or do some nasty registry hacking then look for a new file manager.
