IE is part of the OS. IE is NOT a standalone browser
It is in Microsoft's best interests to have the wrong view of IE as a stand alone, patchable component, aired on public boards like this. Recall the anti-trust. recall that Microsoft deliberately co-mingled the code of IE at the lowest system levels with the true OS code, thus enabling them to claim in court that IE was a part of the OS, could not be removed, and therefore they weren't product dumping in making sure every Windows PC had IE as standard. With Netscape snuffed out, Microsoft fan boys are now desperate to peddle the notion that IE is just another Windows offering, yes, it has flaws but it can be patched.

Lets just re-iterate. The functionality known as IE is part of the WIndows OS. The 23 unpatched flaws (don't know how many of these will be addressed in the latest patch) are a part of the Windows OS. Every vulnerability, Active X and browser exploit in IE is a flaw in the OS. You cannot remove IE. You cannot prevent external and remote entities from communicating with IE and making it do stuff without your knowledge. This is one of the reasons why Windows is inherently flawed. Fan boys, please take note - other OS **DO NOT** have application layer software melded seamlessly into low level OS functionality. Only Windows does that. ONLY Windows provides malware with X direct routes to low level OS functionality through proprietary applications welded into the OS to snuff out 3rd party competitors.
