Running email attachments wasn't a flaw
What the flaw was not being able to disable that feature.

The way you put is like saying all email is a flaw because it allows for viruses in the first place.

Some features get abused. Like HTML emails, they do make you more insecure but it's nice getting pretty formatted emails. What's one to do when you get newletters in the email?
