MySQL is a companies product
It is the product of MySQL AB, though they do release it as Open Source. The list is as: The world's most popular open source database. They also have the old Oracle 7.x based MaxDB which they distribute (though I forget if they also distribute source for those using Linux, BSD, Solaris, ...) Money comes from support, etc.

PostgreSQL already has stores procedures and it is also Open Source. It is also a lot like Oracle in that it is object relational. That just sin't a priority yet for MySQL.
