- Stored procecures aren't used often
-
From my experience store procedure are often an ingnored function in MSSQL and Oracle. The problem with stored procedures is it locks you into the database you are developing on. That means a lot more work.
So if you are writing a application that uses a backend database do you use store procedures? Use of stored procedures can limit your market. So if you are looking to sell to anyone requardless of the databases they use don't use stored procedures.
Now stored procedure aren't a bad thing, just have to be careful in using them. If your OK with being locked into say Oracle for the next 5 to 8 years then go for it, stored procedures will only make things easier and better. If you plan to market this I'd avoid stored procedures to make sure you can get a big a market as possible. Hard to do it's larger market, all databases or one vendor of databases. - Posted by: voska Posted on: 02/05/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
