Assumes a linear progression of bugs
You're almost right, except when they start talking about the number of bugs per thousand lines of code. ... If you write a sofware with 1000 lines of code or a billion, statistics tell us that you will have an average of x amount of bugs per 1000 lines of code.

I'm not convinced that the number of bugs grows linearly with the number of lines of code. Bugs are not always "per line" but very often "per combination of calls", especially when you bring "state" into it. Although it won't be true 100% of the time, 1 billion lines of code have many more combinations than 1000 lines of code and will likely have much more state.

Don't take this reply to mean that I disagree with the rest of your post, I only disagree with the first part. I know that "bugs/line of code" is a statistic that is bandied about a lot but I usually see it used by people with an ulterior motive because they want to prove a point or sell a product.
