Many ordinary consumers like Amazon one-click
shopping, and are happy with the fact that they
don't have to login every time they go on ebay.
Your opinion of average users is clearly low, but
imagine, if you will, a general consumer, who
installs a piece of software on their computer
that promises to protect them, but instead,
erases their on-line identity: how are they going
to react? They're going to surround their desktop
with even more post-it notes and bits of paper
with login details written on them, of course!

Also many server side technologies, Like
Microsoft ASP, NEED cookies enabled, simply in
order to maintain ANY kind of session.

Also, to quote you, if I may:

"Lastly, perhaps it is time we start requiring
people to get a LISCENSE to use a computer,
certifying they are NOT idiots"

But we'd miss out on Loverock's delightful,
amusing, well-reasoned and enlightening input, if
this happened! wink
