I'm confused.

"It really had nothing to with Windows itself, other than DBA's not properly configuring anything."

If that's the case, why didn't the worm infect any other systems? Even if it is true that "MOST Linux DBA understand the concept of process privileges and MOST Windows DBA's do not," most != all, so you'd think that there would be at least one case of this affecting another platform.

Besides, even if ALL Linux administrators understand the concept of process privileges, Linux is not the only other OS MySQL runs on. I use it extensively on Mac OS. Are you going to tell me that all Mac users understand the concept of process privileges? I can tell you right now that most of them don't, and if they use the system in the way in which it was designed to be used, they really don't need to.

I think what it all boils down to is that while you have to go pretty far out of your way to make other systems vulnerable, you have to go out of your way to make Windows reasonably secure. The difference is in how well the systems are designed from a security standpoint.
