- It's not about who is on top. It's about how much on top.

Microsoft has so much saturation. If system administrators
wouldn't fall for the BS that it's easier to administer to one
platform which happens to be the most insecure platform than
to have different layers and levels of platforms. Sure, if Linux or
Mac OSX had nearly 90% saturation, they would be attacked too
but not nearly as much because Apple is much quicker to fix
bugs than Microsoft. I don't know about Linux, but I would
assume that they would be better suited for security as well
since in UNIX it's all about permissions, not trying to spy on its
customers. If administrators would set up their networks with
layers of platforms and use different platforms for what they are
suited for. If a Windows virus like these email viruses only
affected 30% of the computers on a network instead of all of
them it would be a problem but not so bad. Macs could be used
for a multitude of tasks with would
encourage more productivity because Macs are more stable, last
longer, are more efficient, and just better designed than
Windows PCs. Also nobody with any since would put a Windows
server as the front door to their network. Try IBM or Sun for that.
Windows is fine for serving Web pages but not for anything
critical. Then we should have more firewalls and a mix of
operating systems. All operating systems EXCEPT Windows are
made to be network and communication friendly. Windows takes
standards and changes them to exclude non-Windows operating
systems so all the other operating systems have to adapt to
Windows semi-functionality. With a good mixed network
damage control is much easier. Still damage will happen. It will
just be easier to control when a small percentage of your
systems are comprimised instead of all of them at once. - Posted by: MacGeek2121 Posted on: 01/27/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
