ok...and....
How about this sunshine, why don't these people use the equipment PROPERLY! like they're meant to. That is part of the job description, "To use information technology efficiently and effectively as part of the business process".

That isn't asking people to debug a kernel, write a driver or develop a J2EE application, it is about the end user actually USING the business equipment EFFECTIVELY and EFFICIENTLY for WORK RELATED PURPOSES!

I would draw the line at using the equipment for work related purposes. As far as using it effectively and efficiently goes -- that's the job of a good MIS manager...not to make them do it, but to give them the ability to. This is done by creating and/or supplying good programs, setting guidelines (and enforcing them) as well as encouraging them by teaching them the benefits of the program that they might otherwise not take advantage of.

A good MIS manager is not one that says "read the @#$@#% book" and then walks away in a huff.

Instead of these people changing their desktops to suite their "feng suai", how about doing their doing instead! amazing, actually USING information technology FOR WORK related purposes! amazing! what a revolution!

Work related purposes -- yes, I agree with you there.

It sounds to me like you have absolutely NO control over your work situation. Hollering, yelling and basically telling them all to leave you alone WILL NOT cut it.

You might be burnt out. That thought ever cross your mind?
