Absolutely agree
Sometimes, there is such a simple solution to a problem, it is just overlooked. BitTwiddler, you have hit it on the head. This used to happen in the newspaper business. Newspaper reporters would be asked to sit on a story for a day or two so the police (or whomever) could have a chance to nab the person before too much information got out into the public sector.

Admittedly, I'm a Microsoft Partner. I go to Microsoft events all the time and I have gotten to know quite a number of Redmond employees. Without exception, I have found everyone of them to be seriously concerned about their software being secure for the customer. To me, they deserve a reasonable amount of time to create a patch before it's posted for all to see. Like Microsoft, hate Microsoft, facts are facts. They have the most widely used software on the planet and crackers, virus writers, et al., are going to take their shots at where they can cause the most damage.
