Partially correct ...

If Microsoft has the choice between safety and services, they tend to choose services, and they still do that in spite of all their barking about security. It is an addiction with them. When security competes with glitz, they go for the glitz every time and then tell users that in order to be secure they will need to just turn off the services.

BUT, there are also problems with their integrated architecture. Microsoft designed their OS around an integrated architecture years ago when the PC was in its infancy in order to make efficient use of every CPU cycle and as such Windows was a marvel. But that sort of efficiency is no longer necessary. The Unix varients, having been designed for text on more powerful iron, were designed with stability and security in mind, rather than features and efficiency. They are thus much easier to maintain than Windows and modern PC hardware is fully capable of handling the extra load. Thus Windows, in its competitionn with Linux, is crippled out of the gate, and will continue to be until MS sits down and redesigns their OS from the ground up.

The reality is, that until they do that, they will bounce from one security fiasco to another.
