So it's spaggetti code
Know how much spagetti code I write, lots. Also many other large corporations do the same thing. Spagetti code is profitable.

Want some new features toss in strings of code to the existing base. This really gets tricky over time especially if you buy out someone elses feature.

The reality is you can't rewrite from the ground up to add features that ideally should have been added during the intitial design phaze. So you spagetti code additions in and tweak it till it works. Of course this will cause problems. Also I don't see this as an isolated to just proprietary software as it happens in open source software too.
