Very old news...
I could have sworn that ZDNet ran an article saying this same thing one or two years ago. I think Microsoft's respone at the time was that password protection is just meant to prevent casual access to documents; but that it wasn't meant to be a substitute for other protection mechanisms (network security, using Encrypted File System, etc.).
