Where are you talking from (besides the obvious happy )?
A developer?
Netscape released Javascript. We all used and use it. It wasn't a standard for years after release.
It still has occasional problems.
Should we scrap it?

Mozilla has a HTTP request and XML objects built in. They mimic the IE ActiveX equivalents.
They're not part of any standard that I know of so again, should they be used?

..For a rich client experience try a language designed for the task (eg Java), or use web interfaces as they were intended (limitations and all)....

I agree on the former but would add .Net clients to the mix. The latter, us developers try to push the limitations rather than rethink the green screens of yesteryear.
