The average home users is totally clueless. They don't know how wireless works and usually leave the system in default configuration if they ever get it working.
One of my users was telling me about her new Apple laptop and how it came with free Internet service. When I told her most manufacturers bundle free trial dial up service from one or more vendors, she replied that she had free wireless service.
As it turns out, at least three of her neighbors have unsecured wireless systems and her iBook was "nice" enough to find them for her and automatically connect.
I explained what had happened, told her how much a dsl/cable modem account cost and the price of a wireless router, and offered to set it up for her.
She hasn't taken me up on the offer let
