For those who like to share access with their neighbors, here is what you have to do to protect yourself.

1. Disable all open file shares!!!
2. Harden your systems, add firewalls to each PC, and not just Windows Firewall either, I personally like the one provided by Tiny Software.
3. Use encrypted protocols to communicate from PC to PC. Examples such as shtmp and ssh are good.
4. Tunnel unsecure protocols through secure ones to harden the network more.
