Hear Hear: M$ cannot open their code - not because they are afraid that it would be pilfered, but rather that their dirty laundry would be exposed. Let me explain, the reason that Windoze has so many security problems and takes a long time to be released is this - they spend a LOT of time putting in "booby traps" for competitors products. A partial list would be:
The "DR DOS" warning message
The "ping of death"
The latest being the IE hoops to jump through to download Firefox (click on the TITLEBAR? what the F?).
There are more, deeper in the code that have been found - one being that if Windoze detected a connection to a sun machine, the network interface would throttle back to 25% speed.
