Rarely do I get to agree with you Axe, but finally you've made a reasonably true statement. What Linux crackers don't realize is that every successful breach will be dissected by the community, examined ad nauseum and patched by week's end. Currently, I'm downloading the patch for the Debian issue, and I expect that if the Gentoo issue turns out to be different, I'll be downloading that one next week. It appears though that this was the same sbrk() buffer overflow.

One should mention, since the article does not, that this server is not a core Gentoo server, but one operated by a third party. As such, the Gentoo group did not have direct control over security measure on that box, nor the kernel version run there.
