The RIAA always make the pie charts display what they want
Whether its a poll or a graph, the RIAA justifies everything by its own will to gain political and legal powers. Saying they've made strides helps hold off Congressmen who would express the need for govt. regulatory measures if there were reports of continual failings, yet allows the RIAA to increase and continue the number of court cases (pre trial settlements). They are not dumb, just stupid. Just enough success to keep govt reigned in, but too many public black eyes to continue at this pace of "customer goodwill development and product satisfaction".

The best thing besides boycotting them is to keep very keen eyes on their activities, since copy proofing seems to be simmering on the news backburners. Of course with media consolidations, news about the RIAA and its members will probably become sparse on the "news" channels.
