I love this term

Sounds like something from a spy novel. "Ah, Mr Bond. I see you've met my team of highly skilled threat analysis monkeys. This is Bobo, over here is Bebo and, of course, Steve."

Some of our administrators here estimate as much as 50% of the capacity of some workstations is eaten up by spyware, and this is fairly secure environment compared to most offices.

The easiest solution is to switch to Linux or BSD and, yes, it IS just that easy. If you like to tinker FreeBSD, Ubutu, or Mepis. If you don't do committment check out Knoppix. If you want a commercial company supporting you then look at SUSE, Xandros or Linspire. I know a lot of geeks think Linspire is a crip distro but for someone new to the world of *nix it's easy to use. Xandros (my personal fav) includes CrossOver Office which will run Photoshop, most Office applications and a raft of other Windoze apps. Another feature of Xandros I like is their tech support. Sometimes slow but they're persistent.

And, no, malware for Linux is never going to be as hard to get rid of as malware for Windows. There are fewer places to hide in user space and nowhere to hide from sweeping eye of root. Unless you stayed logged in as root all the time, in which case you're box is going to be ridden harder than Seattle Slew. But since it's totally stupid to stay logged in as root, the rest of us will laugh at you and say something like, "If you're going to stay logged in as root, why not just use Windows?"
