Just like terrorists want the U.S. to remain open and free. If the U.S. restricts entry or starts monitoring movement within the country, terrorists won't be free to 'hide in plain sight', as it were. Restriction of freedom works against terrorism, not for it. That's why I never agreed with the idea that 'changing our way of life means the terrorists win'. And that's why such things as the Patriot Act really do work against terrorism. The question is, are we willing to forfeit some freedom to gain some security?

That question can apply to the Internet as well.
