Okay, repeat after me...
1. Keep all client computers behind a firewall... one that will block ALL SYN packets and ICMP echo requests, if feasible.
2. If you have to have a computer directly connected to the 'net, go to a remote computer and:
a. telnet ip.address.of.that.computer 25
b. helo any.domain.name
c. mail from: any.address
d. rcpt to: any.address
You had better see something like "Relaying denied" or "Authentication required". If you don't, find out how to close the relay of your SMTP client -- like RIGHT NOW -- because I can guarantee that your system is currently being used for spamming. As we speak.
