That's a job for security policies
True firewalls won't protect against theft like that but they were never built to protect from people walking out with that kind of info, firewalls are to protect from hackers, DDOS, and other malicious attacks. Firewalls can be used internally and IDS units can monitor how info on the net is used and accessed but neither is aimed at protecting companies from their employees.

Company security policies and access controls are what should be used to defend against people walking out with sensitive info. Your employees should only have access to what they need to do their job; database policies, and access control lists to limit what data they can take. And if they have access to sensitive info they shouldn?t be allowed to bring in Flash drives, USB devices, WiFi PDAs, or camera phones unless they register it with security.

Many companies already have these policies, one major credit card company I did a job for didn?t allow papers, cell phones, PDAs, or Laptops to pass either way through the security entrance unless inspected and registered with the company.

But I think the main thing to eliminate problems is that companies should keep their employees happy so they wouldn?t want to hurt the company they work for. Cutting benefits and outsourcing jobs isn?t going to make your employees want to do their part to protect company information.
