Microsoft Anti Spyware is a decent step in the right direction for now
I still own one WinTel laptop and installed MS Antispyware on it. I was pleasantly surprised when it found a couple problems that the competition missed. Having made a cursory look at the features, I am impressed. I have given the app my acid test. Remeber I am not a tech. I am a small business owner/ technology enthusiast

I purposely went to a couple "game" sites that I know silently install bho's and few places that one must opt-in. I ran Spybot, it found a few porblems outside of cookies. I did not quarentine/delete the problems. Performed the scan with Adaware it did a fine job of finding the problem childre. Again did not quarentine/delete. Yes MS antispyware did the job locating all the offending bugs and deleting bugs. There were a few that I did not know of. This test was done prior to installing the App.

I had depended on Teatimer that comes with Spybot to alert me of changes to in the bho's etc. It does a fair job but misses a few. When time permits, next week I plan to run MS anitspyware through those paces. So far I like the product and if it does what it supposed to do I would consider purchasing.

While I have not purchased the full version of adaware for this laptop and I must say that I am a fan of "freeware" (yeah yeah free as in free beer) if I can purchase one app to remove two I will. As always my concern is based on what it does and CUSTOMER service.

It is a shame that ALL OSes must depend on some third party app to secure it though. I know that this the nature of the beast. I think for the time being this is a good step.
