.NET is a wonderful golden nugget? What is .NET anyway? -- even Microsoft can't say for sure. Its still undefined, even after it has morphed 5 or 6 times since its introduction.

Yeah, it'll be OK until Microsoft pulls the rug out from under .NET developers with their next, latest, greatest standard, which will replace all their previous standards. While its sold as compatible, it'll not be compatible or even bear a resemblance to any previous standard, and will require all new and expensive hardware, Operating systems (both for server and IDE clients), IDEs, and Certifications.

When is Corporate America going to wake up and realize they've been had? The rest of the world isn't paying the M$ tax, why are we?

Windows Security is awful, Windows OS is a bloated pig, their patches for XP are almost as large as the original release of the OS, and while the patch rate might've slowed, the frequency and volume of security problems hasn't. Running their OS almost precludes Internet access, yet Broadband Internet Access is required if you're trying to stay ontop of the patching, which is required unless you're not running any M$ software at all on your system.

I will admit though, my clients running M$ software are a serious goldmine for my business. You see, I'm a consultant that gets to fix all those virus/spyware/security problems and tend to all the patching involved in trying to keep any M$ software operational. The Linux boxes in service just hum quietly all year long and barely make a fuss -- it's the M$ installs that really get me salivating ...
