ive seen...
i have seen attempted breakins to my server (apache) so it does happen. but like you say, its the ease of the target and most of these cracking attempts appear to be automated, just trying to find which machines have the affected system and then they can come back and sploit it. but most of the attempts i see are iis attacks. when my original server got cracked, it was from a vulnerability in a program i should have removed since i wasnt really happy with it. but i got sloppy. this time, i dot all my i's and cross all my t's.
