If this were a real beta release, we would have had to have been signed up for a testing program, signed confidentiality agreements, given a way to give required feedback to a program manager, and we would have been given a manual for testing procedures and error reporting. Plus, we would likely get the final full version for free. And none of that would have happened before they determined that we were qualified.

If they release it to anybody who wants it, it's a general release whether they say it's beta or not. It may be buggy and not fully tested, but that was true of Windows 3.0 and nobody called that beta.

I've done my share of beta testing over the past few decades, and this isn't it.
