You have a point
Two points actually. The first is that average users shouldn't have to spend their time learning about their computer and fixing/patching them. As you said, it's supposed to be a tool.

As to taking our hard earned money and making us beta testers, I'm inclined to agree there too. But that then begs the question of which system isn't still in beta test? Is there a system out there that is "done"? They're all still in development and require updates and patches. Granted some need it more and get exploited more but none are truly ready to be put into the install and forget category. I don't see that happening any time soon either.
