Providing a placebo is exactly how the medico's assess the efficacy of a medicine...so it seems it is a pretty useful technique to me!

Similarly, measuring the life expectancy of an unpatched PC gives you a guideline as to how carefully its creators crafted it before releasing it to the unsuspecting user.

This is a test that MS has never passed let alone got a C minus on - Bill's ethic is "ship now, get the cash, fix later".
