'Linux is growing exponentially- so it should last less time according to the M$hills..'

I'm sure the fact that most Linux distros (sans Debian) are updated about once every 6 months doesn't hurt things either. WinXP was released in 2001 ... how long would Linux distros released in 2001 last? How long does Windows XP last if installed with service pack 2 slipstreamed?
