I'm not sure I agree
"The world's economy could not run without it. Most of todays medical wonders would not exist if not for the computer."

Those things may not exist in their present form, but I firmly believe that mankind would have found a way to accomplish great things without computers. How else could the great pyramids have been built? Was a computer needed to erect the Empire State Building or discover penicillin?

No, humanity would survive, and thrive, without computers. Sometimes, I think, even better.
