Internet is a festering hole.

Yes, the internet is great. You can look up almost anything that comes to your mind, and then dive into it as far and as deep as you like. But I would guess 50% or more of all the computers connected to the "net" have no or ineffective virus protection, and/or no firewall. I constantly run into PC's that have over a dozen viruses on them and have so much spyware on them that they will fail to boot up. Look at the limitless supply of spoof emails in your inbox promising you 10% of the proceeds from the sale of someone's $80 million dollar collection of silver dental work if you pay up front for the shipping and handling charge. Do you ask to get these e-mails? Do you even know anybody in Nepal or Hong Kong? Fortunately, your internet providers virus and spam checkers will protect you from some of the garbage out there, but despite all the freeware to protect PC's and networks - there are as many open doors on the 'net as there are closed.
