Nothing to worry about
[quote]
"The changes we made in Service Pack 2 were better than
before, but they could be narrowed even further," he [Gary
Schare, director of product management for Windows] said.

SP2 better than before, but requires a little tinkering, must
be a little problem you'd think. However from the KB article
886185

"SYMPTOMS
After you set up Microsoft Windows Firewall in Microsoft
Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), you may discover that
your computer can be accessed by anyone on the Internet
when you use a dial-up connection to connect to the
Internet."

Anyone on the internet may access your computer, sound
serious! How could this be an improvement on previous
windows versions? Maybe "anything" had access before;-)

"CAUSE
This problem occurs because of the way that Windows
Firewall interprets local subnets when the ?My network
(subnet) only? option is used. Windows Firewall is included
with Windows XP SP2.

Because of the way that some dialing software configures
routing tables, Windows Firewall in Windows XP SP2 can
sometimes interpret the whole Internet to be a local
subnet."

Ah so it is the dialing software fault messing with the
routing tables. Given windows "sometimes" thinks the
whole internet to be the local subnet what happens to local
broadcast packets, guess it just routes them to the internet
as well?

Nothing to worry about, just the everyday joy of being a MS
user.
