Big market.
Integrated features are not only "nice", they're a major reason for purchase. And every time something new becomes standard in the standard operating system, more capabilities are available to developers who sell software.

If you were designing an ideal piece of software from an engineering perspective, you probably wouldn't do this. If you want to sell $ billions and create an ecosystem selling more $ billions, you would.
