Microsoft didn't partner with an anti-spyware...

... but I suppose this is the next best thing, as they do get the staff of Giant.

The key part of an anti-spyware program is updating the definitions. The scanner has to be solved well only once.

Microsoft is not a company with a great deal of experience in prompt response. As you may have noticed, Windows and Office take a while to develop. They have set up quick response to (most) vulnerabilities, but that's not the same thing.

If they were going to do anything about anti-spyware, they needed people who already knew how to do updates. If they can keep the staff of Giant, or at least have the Giant staff train successors, they could make an effective anti-spyware.

Better, I still think, to partner with a separate company, and let that company solve the problems. But Microsoft gets to do it their way. At least there will be more employees with secure jobs.
