Why not instead have a more effective security model
making it
(1) harder to gain access to ports. By default,
everything has access to a port.
(2) allowing access only to a directory below the
users directory (based on program name) for both
read and write (apart from the program home
directory which is read only after install).
(3) similar for registry entries.
(4) more plain english descriptions of what's
going on when a program asks to install.
(5) default user on XPHome should NEVER NEVER
NEVER have had Admin access. Totally fatal
mistake.

A lot of people told Microsoft this a long time
ago. They ignored them, flew with what they had,
and look at the situation now.
