I Think It's A Great News Story - It Is The APPS Not The OS
I give kudos to the students who took the time to uncover the flaws in the Unix software, this will give the industry an opportunity to fix those flaws and make it more secure than it already is. This article makes mention that it is the apps that have the flaws in it, so the comments shouldn't focus on the acutal OS itself, but the apps.

I like this idea because the students have the opportunity to view the source code and pick out the flaws from them, unlike Microsoft who has the code locked up in a vault 300 feet below the earth's surface guarded by a battalion of eunuchs.

One question: What flavor of Unix were they using and what apps were they using? The article states Unix, not Linux so get the comments on track about this and let's not start a flame war.
