Even the so-called "worms" that have affected "Linux" are for Apache (an app) and BIND (DNS server that most people wouldn't use). I haven't seen a worm that affects the Linux kernel or (common) system software (such as GNU tools). Anyone can install an insecure app on an OS - but when the app and OS are so tightly co-mingled that you can't separate one from the other - you CAN claim that the OS is insecure - otherwise you can't (or shouldn't).
