How Stupid -- Let the flame wars begin ...
First, contrary to the title ... most of the flaws are with Unix software applications, and not with the OS itself. So that is very misleading.

And as far as the 985 flaws in the kernel itself ... well, if you follow the link, the story indicates that there are 5.7 million lines of code in the kernel. And that a good program with that many lines of code usually has well over 5,000 errors. So that means that Unix is safer than other alternatives. And there isn't any indication as to the severity of these bugs.

Obviously, this article is not news, but something to start a flame war. That way, people see more of the banner ads. Who would have expected that from ZDNet?
