Time to pass the plate Diva

You're preaching to the choir here. Unfortunately there are groups of users that do not have access to folks like us that teach, help and inform. Most folks go to the local computer store and meet some pimple faced salesman that assures them they have all they need to surf the web. That is all they hear and know. Best case scenario with these folks is their preloaded Nortons AV updates for 90 days and then they become targets.

I am still amazed at the folks that come into my office and begin asking questions about my machines, yound and old btw. After a few moments of chatting either myself or my tech will offer to help the home user. (I am not a computer tech company either) What I find when I visit their homes scares the hell out of me. You'd be surprised how many of these people think they "have" to be online just to use their computer. On more than one occasion I have run into people that literally e-mail themselves to save the recipes that Aunt Gracie gave them at the last Thanksgiving dinner. Get's worse but you get the idea.

I usually charge a cup or two pots of coffee to sit with these unwashed folks and remove a whole bunch of weirdness from their belief systems. These folks donot realize that the AV software has to be updated or a subscription renewed and trying to explain the reason for Windows update is a bigger sad joke. Imagine my "horror" when I look in their system tray and their awaits a years worth of Windows updates. What's a firewall? Makes me want to find the guy that sold the system to them and throttle him too

I do not know what the answer is either. I guess I will continue to be a good Samaritan and help, teach and inform. Good news though, my sales quota was met earlier in the year this year.
