As a developer I can say, that while I won't depend on scripts there are a lot of GOOD uses for them.

Like form validation: Making sure your form is filled out in a correct way, without it having to travel to the server and back. That saves You time and effort.

Let's not confuse issues here, scripts in themselves are not the issue - browser implementation of scripting technology is. The limitations should be severe and should be set in stone. The failure of MSIE to make those limitations stick is the real problem.
