Spammers targets
"If I ever see a spam message you can bet that I mentally cross the manufacturer off my list of brands that I buy. Do they realize that allowing their product to be marketed this way is also reducing the market that uses their products?"

You are not a target of spammers. I am not a target of spammers either. I would suggest that the GREAT MAJORITY of the world's computer-using population are not really targeted by spammers.

Spammers are targeting people dumb enough to actually believe that they can enlarge a body part by rubbing it with some concoction. Some of them believe that they can strike it rich based on some stock tip received from an unknown sender, or get a valuable college degree without actually going to college. In other words, spammers target idiots.

I don't believe that I have ever received a spam from a legitimate seller of legitimate products. (Those spams offering Viagra, Cialis, etc. are NOT from legitimate sellers, even if the products ARE legitimate (doubtful).

In their search for the incredibly dumb, however, spammers "fire a shotgun" which annoys all of the rest of us. Just remember the famous P. T. Barnun quote: "there's a sucker born every minute." Wherever there's a sucker, there's a scammer (spammer) ready, willing and able to separate him from his money.
