Wi-Fi home users and security
It is interesting that the article states that home users are not setting up security options on their Wi-Fi installations. On a recnet drive around my community I found that every single home Wi-Fi- installation had at least encryption turned on. The local city ahll, medical clinic, hospital, police station and high school all had non-secured wide open hot spots, along with several businesses. The same lack of security goes for several colleges and universities located around our metro area. I've heard from workers in a couple of local county courthouses that they have been explicitly directed not to implement security after judges and county attorneys complained when their personal laptops couldn't get access to secured hot spots with access to confidential court records.

My experience is clearly that home users are the only ones bright enough to implement security. It's the large organizations which are leaving things wide open.
