as far as OSS is concerned, patches may be created faster (although who knows if you have the latest patch or distro unless you are continually monitoring the release cycle like the evening news), but with all the cracker/hackers that have access to the source code, watch how much faster it gets exploited without anyone in the community being alerted to a vulnerability.

TIVO is a classic example. Almost before it hit the market there were cracks and hacks available that allowed you to use it for purposes that it was not intended to be used for, and which allow you to bypass the copyright laws that it was supposed to enforce.
