Factual Error: Microsoft Java
From the article:
The Windows operating system does not usually have Sun's Java implementation installed. That's because, until their recent settlement, Sun and Microsoft had competed in creating Java software, and most Windows computers came with Microsoft's virtual machine installed instead.

First, Microsoft is working to transfer users from their obsolete JVM to Sun's gradually.

Second, Microsoft couldn't be described as having "competed in creating Java software" for many years.

For reference, years ago Microsoft made improvements to the Java VM they offered. Sun sued because the improvements were limited to Microsoft, and that violated Sun's philosophy. (Fair enough, by the way. Sun made it; Sun owns it.)
The two sides settled. Microsoft was permitted to use only an already obsolete version of Java, no updates allowed, and that only for a period of 7 (?) years. (Another editorial-type comment: I'm not the first to point out that this was a dumb move by Sun. Java is not always essential, so many users would not have the necessity of seeking out Sun.)

Microsoft even intended for a while to leave the JVM out of XP entirely. If users needed it, they'd be told to download it from Sun. Now the obsolete JVM is back, but not for long.
